Where each tool lives

A map of the palette's categories: Write, Frame, Navigate, React, Selection Mode, Icons, Stickers and Media, and where each tool lives.

The palette's tools are grouped into categories, each one press away on the palette strip. This page is a map of where each tool lives.

The categories sit along the strip by name, in three bands with a thin line between each: Common (Write, Frame), Meet (Navigate, React, Selection Mode) and Decorate (Icons, Stickers, Media). Rest on one, or click it, to see its elements.

The palette strip: the selection mode, the categories by name, and Search.

The categories

The palette opens on Popular: Sticky note, Text, Frame, Image and Link card, then, behind a divider, Room, Meeting Table, Chair, Bring Focus and Avatar Pad. Popular is the palette's landing page rather than a category on the strip; every other category is one level deep.

Anything you cannot see is still one search away: the strip's Search and the search panel (⌘K or Ctrl+K) add any palette element by name.

Where each tool lives

Write holds the wordy elements: Text drops a free-standing label (T) and Note is a coloured sticky note card (N). See Write Elements.

Frame holds the frame (F), a labelled box that groups a room's notes and moves them as one. See Frame Elements.

Navigate holds what people walk round and through: the Portal, Bring Focus, the Chair, Desk and Sofa, the Fence, the Avatar Pad and the Link card, then the office pieces: Room, Meeting Table, Plant, Bookshelf, Water Cooler, Coffee Machine and Rug.

React holds the five Reaction Pads: Confetti, Sparkles, Hearts, Applause and Fireworks.

Selection Mode holds the Selection Mode buttons, one per mode, including Walk In, the Avatar one.

Icons and Stickers are for decoration: a searchable catalogue of single-colour glyphs, and die-cut colour emoji and word badges. See Icons and Stickers.

Media covers pictures and other people's pages: Image (9), with uploads, the gallery and image search, and the Link card. Image only appears where image uploads are available.

Each behaves like any other element once placed: select it, restyle it, multi-select it with others, and move it freely. Pick a tile and tap the canvas to drop the element at its default size, or drag to draw it at the size you want.

The palette is hidden for people with view-only access, since they can't add anything. See Toolbar Layout for how the strip shows the categories and opens each one.

Guides for these tools

Several tools have their own walkthroughs, listed below and linked here:

  • Images covers uploading, searching for and reusing pictures.
  • Sticky Notes covers the coloured note card for short notes.
  • Portals covers linking two portals and travelling between them, including across tabs.
  • Meeting Elements covers the Navigate, React and Selection Mode categories: Bring Focus, Reaction Pads and Selection Mode buttons.

Reach for a Frame when a board grows past one screen: it keeps a section labelled and easy to move as a unit.
