Stairs take people between the tabs of a space, one floor at a time. Like the Elevator, they treat each tab as a floor, in tab order: the first tab is the ground floor, Up is the next tab and Down the one before.
They live in the palette's Travel category, one of the meeting elements, after the Elevator, and search adds them too.
Setting them up
- Add Stairs to the first tab.
- Add Stairs to the next tab, in about the same place, and so on up the building.
- Click any of them, or walk your character on, and pick Up or Down.
There is nothing to link: you land on the Stairs on that floor nearest the ones you took. A floor with no Stairs still works: you land at its Elevator, else its Avatar Pad, else the middle of the tab.
Climbing
- In Avatar mode, your character walks up the flight, then steps off the Stairs on the next floor and keeps walking from there. Start from farther away and it goes straight there.
- Not walking, the view moves to the Stairs on that floor.
- With reduced motion turned on, there is no walk: you arrive just in front of the Stairs.
- The top floor has no Up and the ground floor no Down.
Who can do what
- Editors place, move and delete Stairs.
- Everyone, Editors, Participants and Viewers, can climb them.
The look
A flight of stone steps between two walls with a handrail on each, the landing opening onto the floor above, and a small sign with an up and a down arrow. Otherwise it is an ordinary element: move, rotate, copy and export.
