Elevator

Put an Elevator on each tab and every floor of your space is one press away, with nothing to link.

An Elevator takes people between the tabs of a space, which it treats as floors. Unlike a Portal, there is nothing to link: every Elevator serves every floor.

It lives in the palette's Travel category, one of the meeting elements, beside the Directory, and search adds one too.

Setting one up

  1. Add an Elevator to the first tab.
  2. Add one to each other tab you want people to reach. Each tab's name is its floor's name.
  3. Click any of them, or walk your character in, and its panel opens.
  4. Give each a name if you like: double-click it, or use Rename in its menu. Unnamed ones read Elevator 1, Elevator 2 by position on their floor.

Riding

  • The panel lists every Elevator in the space by name. Your floor comes first, marked You Are Here, with its other Elevators, so you can hop across a big floor without changing tab. Then come the other floors in tab order.
  • Pick one and you arrive just outside it, its doors opening as you step out.
  • A floor with no Elevator still works: you arrive at its Avatar Pad, or the middle of the tab.
  • If you were walking in Avatar mode, you stay in it and keep walking from there.
  • With reduced motion turned on, the doors do not move.

Who can do what

  • Editors place, move, name and delete Elevators.
  • Everyone, Editors, Participants and Viewers, can ride.

The look

A lift set into a wall, with steel doors, a floor display over them and a call panel beside them. Its name sits under it. Otherwise it is an ordinary element: move, rotate, lock, copy and export.
