Layout Cleanup

One press on Tidy Up lines up the notes, frames and pictures that are nearly lined up.

A board fills up fast in a meeting: notes dropped in a hurry, frames pulled to roughly the right size, pictures that almost share an edge. Tidy Up puts that right in one press. Its tidier, Auto-align, snaps what you already have onto the grid, so near-aligned notes become exactly aligned and nothing moves far.

Auto-align takes a scattered, mis-sized handful of notes and snaps them into neat rows on the grid.

How to run it

Press the Tidy Up button (the broom in the bottom-right corner, just left of Layers) and choose Auto-align at the bottom of its panel. Rest the mouse on it first and the tab is tidied behind the panel, so you can see the result before you commit; move away and everything goes back.

You can also open the command palette (⌘K / Ctrl+K), type Auto-align and pick Auto-align to Grid under Actions. It runs on the whole active tab as a single undoable step, so if the result isn't what you hoped, one undo puts everything back exactly as it was.

Typing layout in the command palette lists the tidiers under Actions.

Tidying is for editors: it isn't offered to a participant or in a view-only session, and it leaves a locked tab alone, so unlock the tab first. Inside an unlocked tab, a locked element, or anything on a locked layer, stays exactly where it is.

The Auto Layout styles

Above Auto-align, the panel also shows the Auto Layout styles (Smart, Flowchart Down, Flowchart Right and Tree). They rearrange shapes by the arrows between them, so they only have work to do on a diagram that came in from an import with its shapes and arrows. A Space has no tools for drawing shapes or arrows, so on a board of notes and frames the styles are greyed out, reading Already tidy.

Tidying works entirely offline and deterministically. It never calls out to anything, so it's always available.
