Cleaning Up a Tab

Tidy a messy tab in one press: snap its notes, frames and pictures onto a tidy grid.

A board that filled up fast in a meeting can end up slightly ragged: notes dropped in a hurry, frames pulled to roughly the right size. Tidying cleans up the active tab in one step, so you do not have to nudge elements into place by hand.

Tidy Up

The quickest way is the Tidy Up button in the bottom-right corner, just left of Layers. Choose Auto-align at the bottom of its panel: it snaps the current positions and sizes onto a tidy grid, straightening rows and columns while keeping your arrangement. Resting the mouse on it first previews the result on the canvas before you click.

Or open the command palette (Cmd / Ctrl + K), type Auto-align and pick Auto-align to Grid under Actions.

Typing layout in the command palette lists the tidiers under Actions.

Tidying acts on the whole tab at once, and it is a single step you can undo (Cmd / Ctrl + Z) if the result is not what you wanted.

Auto-align takes a scattered handful of notes and snaps them into tidy rows on the grid in one press.

More on layout

This is the Layout Cleanup tool; see that guide, and Auto-Align, for how it decides where things go, and for the Auto Layout styles the panel also shows, which only rearrange a diagram that came in from an import.

A locked tab can't be tidied until you unlock it, and tidying isn't offered on a view-only share link.

Auto-align is safe to run often: it never moves anything far, and running it again on a tidy tab changes nothing.
