In a Space you usually hear the people near you, and everyone in a room hears everyone else in it (Proximity Audio). An all-hands needs something else: one person heard by the whole Space. A Stage is that. Walk your character onto it and everyone on the tab hears you, in any room or none, as clearly as if they were standing beside you.
Calls are not switched on everywhere yet. Where they are off, a Stage is still there to stand on, and everything else in the Space works as usual.
Adding a stage
Pick Stage, beside the Room, among the office pieces. It goes in behind everything, like a room or a rug, so chairs you have already placed stand in front of it.
Resize it to any width. Its name sits on a plate on its front edge: double-click to rename it "Main Stage" or "Demo Corner".
The All-Hands Hall template comes with a stage already standing at the front of the hall, rows of seats facing it and a Bring Focus button for the presenter (Templates).
Speaking from the stage
- Stand on its top. Your feet must be on the stage itself; the front edge you see, and the outline round it, count as off it. Walk off and you are back in the room's own call straight away.
- Everyone on the tab hears you, at full volume and centred, wherever they are. Two speakers on a stage, or on two stages, hear each other as one room does.
- The audience is muted to the stage. While someone speaks from it, everyone else in the stage's room is its audience: the stage does not hear them, and they hear each other only by distance, so neighbours can whisper without the whole hall hearing. The walls still stand: a meeting room next door keeps its own call.
- Somebody in the audience can ask to speak with Raise Hand, and the stage can Let Speak (Proximity Audio).
- Your microphone reads Live while anyone else walks the tab, because they all hear you.
Who Can Speak and Show Cameras
Right-click the stage and open its Stage section:
- Who Can Speak: Editors (the default), or Editors and Participants for a panel, a demo from the floor or a show-and-tell. Anyone else can still stand on the stage; they are heard as the audience is, and a short line above the call strip tells them only Editors speak from it.
- Show Cameras: when it is on, everyone on the tab sees a speaker's camera and shared screen, not just the people near them (Cameras and Screen Sharing). When it is off, the stage is heard but not seen. It is off on a new stage, and on in the All-Hands Hall.
Select several stages to set them all at once.
