A default folder is where your new spaces go when you create one without choosing a place. With none set, they land in My Work. Your defaults are your own: teammates choose theirs. The liveworkspace index keeps them for your account or guest identity, so they follow you to any browser, and it files each new space by them.
Setting a default from a folder
Open a folder's menu (its ⋯ button, or right-click the folder) and choose Use as Default for…. Under New spaces that open as, tick what this folder should collect:
- Spaces: every new space.
Each entry points at one folder, so ticking it here moves it from wherever it was; unticking it sends those spaces back to My Work. One folder can hold several entries.
My Work has the same menu: a ticked entry there means those spaces land in My Work. Choosing it when unticked clears that default.
You can use a team's folders too, as long as you are a member of the team. A team's own top level cannot be a default: create inside the team to put a space there.
Seeing your defaults
A default folder shows a small mark after its name, in the sidebar, the Explorer's lists and cards, and the editor's Explorer panel. Hover it to read what it collects, such as "Default folder for new spaces and sessions".
When you create a space
New Space never asks where a space goes: it is filed in your Spaces default folder, or in My Work when you have none.
- Starting from inside a folder or a team keeps you there: that folder wins over your defaults.
- To file one space somewhere else, use Change Folder on it afterwards.
- As a guest it works the same way, and your folders and defaults move to your account when you sign in.
In Settings
Settings > Spaces > Default Folders (Where New Spaces Go) shows the folder each entry sends new spaces to, or My Work. Change picks a folder; Clear sends those spaces back to My Work.
If a default folder has been deleted, or belongs to a team you have left, the row says "A folder you can no longer reach", with where those spaces go instead: your Spaces default folder, or My Work. Deleting a folder that is one of your defaults warns you first.
Defaults only decide where a new space starts. Moving a space later, or changing a default, never moves spaces you already have.
